Road Trip! Gasparilla Music Fest in Tampa March 11-12
Headliners Ryan Adams, Cage the Elephant, Ghostface Killah and a Kids Music Fest highlight the 2-day festival
After much speculation and anticipation the final wave of acts are being announced today for the 6th Annual Gasparilla Music Festival presented by Frontier (“GMF”) which returns to downtown Tampa’s Curtis Hixon Park on March 11th & 12th.
The community supported non-profit festival has become a ‘must do’ event for live music fans nationwide and continues to be the perfect addition to any Spring Break itinerary. Today, GMF proudly reveals the complete list of thoughtfully curated performers that will appear this year. Headlining Saturday, March 11 is Grammy® Award nominee Cage the Elephant. GMF’17 will mark the group’s first live appearance in the Tampa Bay Area in over two years. Headlining and closing out the festival on Sunday, March 12, will be Ryan Adams who will celebrate the release of his new album, “Prisoner,” at the festival. Joining the expansive lineup are : Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Michal Menert & the Pretty Fantastics, Twin Peaks, Phoebe Bridgers, The Freecoasters, Inkblot and Patel Conservatory Vocal Arts Chorale
“Whether it’s getting to see a band you love, discovering new music, or just finding a groove, GMF offers music lovers intimate experiences within a fun festival setting,” said David Cox, GMF’s Executive Director. “This year promises to deliver a lot of memorable moments.”
GMF has joined forces with the Tampa-based Cigar City Brewing which is its exclusive beer sponsor for 2017. In addition to its wide range of acclaimed beers, they will be crafting the ‘Gasparilla Music Festival Pilsner’ specifically for the festival. The crisp German-style pilsner is light, easy-drinking and flavorful and is the “perfect accompaniment to a Ghostface Killah set along the Hillsborough River.”
GMF’17 will feature over 40 bands across 4 stages along Riverwalk in downtown Tampa. Each year the festival has grown in size and breadth with an eclectic assortment of music hand-picked to inspire as well as entertain. In addition to diversity of sounds, the Gasparilla Music Festival offers diversity of experiences including a wellness kickoff on Saturday with the first ever Dubb Tenn Yoga and Ride the Park, a stationary bike ride hosted by SOHO Cycles. The ride is a fundraiser for GMF‘s Recycled Tunes program.
GMF also continues to grow its popular Kids Fest which offers musical performances and interactive experiences for children of all ages each day of the festival from noon until 2pm and offers FREE admission to children 12 and under. This year, Kids Fest is expanding into the adjacent Glazer Children’s Museum on Sunday March 12. The museum will be open with FREE admission all day Sunday and will offer an immersive musical experience and live performances from 2017 Grammy nominee Secret Agent 23 Skidoo, Bears and Lions and more throughout the venue.
GMF encourages sustainability and community. The festival has collected, refurbished and distributed musical instruments to students who might otherwise not have access to music and lessons. The festival encourages attendees to walk, bike, paddleboard, kayak or carpool to the festival. . In addition, GMF composts its food waste which is then donated to Wigwam Organic Farms and used to grow fresh vegetables for local soup kitchens.
